Our 9th Annual Habifest is set for September 20, 2008 at Copeland's Restaurant in downtown Columbia, MD.  We have added some additional family friendly activities such as a children's fun area with a moon bounce, games and face painting and a Silent Auction where we will be auctioning off a 1/2 hour massage from Lynn's Day Spa, and autographed sports memorabilia including items signed by Cal Ripken Jr .

Apostles Build.........Construction Begins!

On April 22, 2008 we officially began construction of our first Habitat home this year, on Cherry Avenue in Elkridge.  Eleven local Churches have agreed to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Howard County to help fund the cost of and will work in service together to build this 3 bedroom home.  Volunteers from the 11 churches are expected to be working on the Cherry Ave. construction site until early August.
      
The Apostles Build Program allows local churches to come together and funnel their energies on an often overlooked aspect of Howard County, working families in need.  The partner families are expected to make a down payment on their home, provide us with up to 500 hours of “Sweat Equity” into the construction of their home and in return Habitat provides the families with a no-profit, no interest mortgage. Removing interest and utilizing volunteer labor help Habitat offer homeowners a mortgage payment that is well below the cost of a 2-bedroom apartment at fair market rent. Our program is an outstanding way to offer our partner families a hand up instead of a hand out.
